Real wooden floors can bring warmth and comfort to a room, turning ordinary dwellings into cozy cottages, gray office quarters into lounge-like spaces, and a house into a home. But with the current shortage of trees, and with forests disappearing all over the world, hardwoods will be harder and harder to come by.

There is a substitute, however, for hardwood floors. Laminates are sold as planks or panels, and are fashioned to look like wood, stone, or tile. These planks are made of thick, water-resistant material, and are shaped so that they fit together like snug, interlocking pieces. They are fitted through the floating installation method, where they rest on top of a subfloor, which may be made of plywood, concrete, or existing flooring.

Laminates can be made to look exactly like your hardwood of choice, be it mahogany, oak, or cherry. Because they arenÂ’t made of real wood, they can withstand extreme impact, scratching, cigarette burns, and exposure to sunlight, all without fading or being heavily damaged. Not much is needed to maintain a laminate floor: all that laminates need are regular vacuuming, or a wipe-down with a damp mop or rag, and with no wax or polish at that.

Because laminates are stress resistant, they can be engineered for use most anywhere in the home, including wet areas such as the kitchen. They can also be built over heated concrete slabs – an advantage when laminates have to be fitted in countries with very cold climates. Laminates can be easily installed, and as they don’t need much cleaning or protection, need not be covered with carpets or rugs, which can carry dust mites or allergens. Thus, laminates are not only beautiful and cheap, they can contribute to healthy living as well.

Laminates, however, also carry their disadvantages. They can be scratched if heavy objects are dragged across them, or if large domestic animals – such as big dogs or cats – trudge or paw their way through them. They may be largely resistant to sun and scratches, but laminates might not be able to stand moisture. The laminate inner core is made up of a special strong material which is not especially resistant to excessive moisture. If moisture does seep into a laminate floor, the planks may be deformed, and may no longer be as scratch-proof and burn-ready as before.

Since laminates are installed above a subfloor, they can be noisy if walked on. As such, laminate manufacturers also provide special paddings to be installed in between the subfloor and laminate – not quite an advantage if you don’t want to spend more for a cheap, but nature-friendly hardwood finish.

Despite the fact that laminates are considerably cheaper than hardwood floors, and can be installed by most anybody who wants to fix their home up, any damage done to them is not easily fixed. Laminates are maintained through touch-up kits, or chip repair kits, but these kits are difficult to find, and are only designed to maintain the floor, not repair major damage.

Laminates have their goods and not-so-goods, but in the end, the decision all comes down to you. If you think you can install a floor on your own with minimal cost, and if you donÂ’t have large animals for pets, then a laminate floor may be the best for your needs. However, if you arenÂ’t quite sure what animals might come in the future, and if you are concerned about floorboards creaking, or getting misshapen from heat and moisture, then maybe cutting down a few trees wonÂ’t hurt.

Whatever the case, wherever you may be, laminates or not, hardwoods or floorboards, a house wonÂ’t be a home if the ground you walk on doesnÂ’t appeal to your tastes.

Laminate flooring has been very popular in Europe for quite some time. Now it is emerging in the United States as one of the most popularly used wood coverings for floors. The cause for its popularity can be attributed to the fact that it provides the hardwood look. Though it looks grand, hardwood flooring is expensive too. So, people often settle for laminate floors to get that effect at a lower price.

Moreover, laminate flooring is very durable. It can be suitably used in a variety of places - from a simple home bedroom to a showroom of automobiles. Laminate floors can be made upon just about any flat surface - be it plywood or concrete slab or hardwood flooring or sheet vinyl flooring.

Laminate floors are constructed of different layers. From the top downward as constructed, these layers are: the wear layer, the pattern or image layer, medium/high density fiber board (a processed wood core), and the balancing layer with a moisture barrier.

It may be noted that laminate is also widely used in kitchen work surfaces. However, the difference between laminate on floors and laminate on kitchen work surfaces lies in the capacity to take stress of people walking on them everyday.

A wide range of colors and patterns are available for laminate floors. The quality of these floors is also improving day by day. Laminate floors have become close imitations of real wood floors.

The dense laminate floors are not difficult to clean. They require the simplest maintenance - dust sweeping or vacuum cleaning or maybe light mopping is required. Even with minimum effort the floors look good for many, many years. A 10- to 25-year residential warranty is also often provided against staining, wearing and fading.

When you are trying to choose between laminate floors or wooden floors, you must learn a bit about how each one is installed and how to keep them looking their best so you will be able to decide which one will fit into your lifestyle easier.

There are different types of wooden flooring. Remember all wooden floors react to moisture whether they are pre-finished or unfinished. When you look at wooden floors, you will notice there are Engineered Wooden floors, or Factory Pre-finished Wooden Floors. There are also many different types of finishes you can choose from such as UV-cured, polyurethane, acrylic-urethane, aluminum oxide, acrylic impregnated and of course unfinished. Whenever you are choosing a natural wooden floor or oak flooring, you must remember that you have to take care of these wooden floors. They will take a bit more care than other types of flooring. However, if the wooden floors are installed properly and you care for them correctly, they can last a hundred years and look as awesome; as they did the day they were installed.

If you choose oak flooring or any type of wooden floors for your home, it would be best to talk with a professional to ensure that your wooden floor is installed properly and that it will be able to shrink and expand with the moisture so it does not buckle. It the wooden floors buckle you will have quite a mess on your hands trying to repair the damage.

Laminate floors are becoming very popular mainly because of the ease of installation and care. Laminating floors are an interlocking system that is installed on top of the existing substrate. It can be easily installed and does not need a professional.

Many laminate floors mimic the look of traditional woods; however, you can also find several today that have the look of stone and marble patterns.

The major reason many people are choosing laminate floors over wooden floors or oak flooring is the ease in installing, they are hardwearing and not as expensive as wooden floors. Laminate floors are commonly referred to as a floating floor since they do not actually attach to the sub-floor. The planks are just clicked together, which makes them very easy to install.

This system is the Quick-Step Laminate Flooring. The system is the UNICLIC system and all that one has to do is place the tongue of one plank into the groove of another at a certain angle and press down. There is no waiting for the finish to dry. You can walk on your new Quick-Step Laminate Flooring as soon as you are finished with installation.

Choosing between oak flooring, wooden floors, laminate floors or Quick-Step Laminate Flooring is a matter of personal choice. You can decide which one fits with your own personal lifestyle to create the home of your dreams.

Have you been tempted by ads for cheap laminate flooring that costs well under a dollar per square foot? You can find these ads in nearly every newspaper and on the surface they may sound pretty good. But, if you buy truly cheap laminate flooring you will probably be disappointed with the end result and surprised at what the final costs actually are once you have it installed. However, there is a better way to get cheap laminate flooring that is good quality and you may even be able to save more money by installing it yourself.

Many laminate manufacturing companies make a “low end” version of their laminate. This cheap laminate flooring is thin, not very scratch and dent resistant, and it will not look like the “real” thing. It probably will not last very long either, so you may end up replacing it sooner than you had planned. You may also have to apply glue to install some types of cheap laminate flooring which is usually best left to a professional, which will end up costing you more money. The better laminate products have features such as aluminum oxide in the top layer to enhance the hardness and damage resistance, and melamine to give it added strength.

The best way to buy cheap laminate flooring that is good quality is to shop around at discount flooring stores. If you are lucky you will be able to find one in your local area. Before you go, you may want to take a look at some manufacturerÂ’s websites and get a good idea of what types of products you like and donÂ’t like. Make yourself familiar with the process of making laminate as well as installing it so that you can decide which laminate is best for you.

If you donÂ’t have a discount flooring store in your area, or if you would rather not shop around that way, you can find dozens of discount flooring stores online with large selections of products. You can save 50 percent or more and you may even be able to get a deal on shipping.

Laminate Flooring - Laminate Flooring – Plenty of Designs

One of the greatest advantages of laminate flooring is the sheer selection of different patterns you can have on it. While real wood flooring comes in one look – that is, wood – laminate can have almost anything on it. It is, after all, just a picture printed on a piece of fibreboard, and it’s not difficult to get photos of different materials, even very exotic ones.

Wood effect floors are obviously the most popular, but they donÂ’t necessarily have to be natural-looking wood. Many people go for wood-effect floors in odd colours, such as blue or black, or ones that fit together to make a big picture that would never occur in nature.

After wood patterns, the second most popular thing to have on laminate is stone. Stone-pattern laminate can be surprisingly convincing if it is well printed and put together, and gives your home a great ‘old castle’ look and feel. You don’t get the uneven surface of stone, but then again many people see that as an advantage over real stone – and the floor doesn’t get really cold in the winter, either!

Ceramic is another popular option, especially when it has been fitted with a damp-proof membrane for use in bathrooms and kitchens. It recreates the look of a tile floor, but without the dangers of slipping when it gets wet, or the tendency of tiles to collect dirt and other nasty things in the cracks between them.

But there are plenty of designs that are more unusual than this – far too many to list here, in fact. The best thing to do is to go down to your local laminate flooring showroom, where they will have a whole range of products, from the realistic to the simply ridiculous. Once you realize that you’re no longer limited about what your floor could look like, it can be very liberating from a design point of view.

Laminate Flooring - Laminate Flooring : The Basics

Laminate flooring is a synthetic alternative to wood flooring. Laminate flooring was not sold in the United States until about 1996, but it has been sold in European countries for about 20 years.

Laminate flooring is made up of several layers:

The surface is a hard as nails film, normally made of aluminum oxide. Right underneath the surface film is a photographic image or decor paper (usually of wood), to give the flooring the look of a natural wood floor. The core of laminate flooring is made of various materials, most often high density fiberboard, or wood particle board. The final layer of laminate flooring is the backing, made of various materials. Backings made of laminate material are superior as far as water or moisture damage is concerned.

Laminate flooring may be installed over any kind of sub floor, as it is not directly attached to the sub floor, but is a “floating” floor. Many laminate flooring manufacturers use a “click system” on the tongue and groove joints, so you can just fit the joints together and you are ready to go. Other manufacturers require you to glue the pieces of flooring together, but in either case, you do not need to nail the floor to the sub floor.

If you are laying the laminate flooring directly over a concrete sub floor, you'll need to lay down a damp proof membrane, a.k.a. DPM, before laying the flooring. This is to keep moisture from seeping up through the floor into the laminate flooring.

Laminate flooring has quite a few benefits: affordability, low maintenance, ease of installation, attractive looks, and more. It also has a few drawbacks, though: it's not as durable as real wood, doesn't absorb sound well, doesn't feel as warm to your cold feet on winter mornings, and may warp if it is exposed to moisture.

While most people prefer other businesses, some people get into laminate flooring business. Like any other business in the world, if done right, it's a quite profitable business. Laminate flooring has been successful since it was introduced on the market, first in Europe and then in the United States in 1996.

Here are some basic steps to follow before you start your laminate flooring business:

1. You should make specific short and long-term plans with clear goals and ways to evaluate them. Determine the resources needed such as the place from which you will work, people, money etc.

2. You should have a pretty good idea of what products and services you will sell and the benefits people who buy them will get.

3. Find important information about your competitors like their strengths and weaknesses because it helps you in setting a competitive bid. Always try to be unique.

4. Focus your promotions effectively by knowing who will buy your products/services. Think about the different promotion strategies and find out the best that suits your business. Focus your promotions in reaching the greatest number of customers.

5. Set up your laminate flooring business. Find out the start-up costs (gear, furniture, licenses etc.). Also find out how much you will have to pay to stay in business. These costs usually include rent, taxes, utilities, promotional expenses, etc.

6. Insurance is a must. There are several types of insurance that you must have like health and property insurance, for example. You may have to talk to an insurance agent to determine what suits your particular situation.

7. Take care of all the legal matters. You should contact your state's department of commerce and industry and find out all the things you need to do in order to start your own laminate flooring business. In most cases you need to get a business license from your local municipality.

8. Start a business checking account and use it to perform any money related operation like depositing your income or pay your business related expenses. Setup a fairly simple bookkeeping system to record all your income and expenses in a way that makes tax preparation and monitoring your situation easier. Ask your tax advisor or accountant to make sure you do this right.

This list is far from a complete one so use it just to learn the basic steps to be taken when starting your own laminate flooring business. You should consult a business professional and do additional research to make sure your business will be successful.

Dupont laminate flooring is exclusively available at Home Depot. Here you will find one of the largest selections of all kinds of Dupont flooring, including the Real Touch Elite brand of laminate flooring. One of the most attractive features of this flooring is that you can install it on just about any type of surface. This means you donÂ’t have to go through the extra work of tearing up the existing floor and laying down a special one suited just for Dupont laminate flooring.

The installation instructions are included in every package of Dupont Real Touch Elite laminate flooring so you can easily install it yourself. Laminate flooring, especially the Dupont laminate flooring, is becoming increasingly popular with homeowners because of its ability to simulate the look of hardwood flooring. It also has the added benefits of having long lasting durability against wear and tear, moisture resistances and color fading. When you combine this with the much lower cost of Dupont Elite flooring, laminate flooring is a more cost-effective alternative for the flooring needs of your home.

When you start to install the Dupont laminate flooring in your home, you might wonder where you should start first. Experts with the installation of Dupont Real Touch Elite laminate flooring say that the best thing to do is to consider the incoming light. When installing the Dupont Elite flooring, laminate planks look their best when they run parallel to the light coming in through a window or door. The wall that you use as the starting point for laminate flooring should also be the longest wall and you do need to make sure that it is straight. If not you will notice the crookedness in the layout of your laminate flooring. For the installation of Dupont Real Touch Elite laminate flooring a diamond blade is the best one to use in your saw.

It is only easy to keep your Dupont laminate flooring looking as good as new. You just have to vacuum it or sweep with a soft broom to remove any dust and dirt. When it comes time to wash up the floor, make sure you only use a damp mop on Dupont Real Touch Elite laminate flooring. This is because excess moisture or water can cause damage to the planks. You should never use a strong cleanser and never use abrasive substances when cleaning Dupont Elite flooring. Laminate floors also respond well to the use of floor mats at the entrances of doorways.

There are many advantages to installing Dupont laminate flooring. The Dupont Real Touch Elite flooring has the look and touch of real hardwood. The bevelled edges of the laminate planks add a sense of depth to the floor and the pattern of the laminate flooring has a realistic texture. The Joint Guard system that Dupont uses in its laminate flooring helps to prolong the life of the floor. Finally, the comfort underlayment that comes with Dupont laminate flooring helps to reduce noise transmission when you walk across it.

Laminate Flooring - Laminate Flooring Advantages and Disadvantages

Most Americans have no idea what laminate flooring is, although they are often aware of Pergo flooring. Well, Pergo is to laminate floorings what Kleenex is to facial tissues. As the first company to create this type of flooring and sell it in the United States, their name has become synonymous with laminate flooring in the minds of many consumers. That being said, there are over 30 other brands of this type of flooring available as well.

Laminate flooring is typically made up of three separate layers: a tough aluminum oxide wear layer with a photograph of wood, stone, or brick adhered to the underside of it; a core or “carrier” usually made of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) which is a processed wood product that is very moisture resistant; and a final layer of plastic laminate backing to seal the entire piece against moisture and potential pests.

Laminate flooring is a cost-effective and easy to care for alternative to genuine wood or stone surfaces. Being more tolerant to moisture, it can more readily be used in bathrooms or other areas where moisture may pose problems for other flooring materials – as long as the manufacturer’s warranty includes moisture coverage. Because of its simple tongue and groove attachment pattern, it can be utilized in virtually any room of the house, provided that there is a concrete, plywood, or other firm floor surface below it.

laminate floors do not stain, fade, dent, or warp like real hardwood floors, although they have a similar cost. They also often include lifetime warranties against most problems and defects. If your home has significant foot traffic (including children and/or pets) then a laminate floor will hold up much better than a comparable wood or even tile floor, and be considerably less expensive than stone flooring materials.

If you have a lot of traffic in your home and plan to stay there for some time, laminate flooring may prove to be the best value for your money because of its long life, durability and excellent warranty coverage. It is not the least expensive flooring option, so it is always important to weigh the costs and features against your needs. If you want the look of hardwood but have a sub-floor that is incompatible with real hardwood floors, laminate flooring may be the choice for you!

Laminate Flooring - Wholesale Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is one of the least expensive methods of flooring. Many people buy laminate flooring from a wholesaler directly as it works out cheaper than to buy from a retailer. Any commodity that is required in large quantities is best bought in wholesale. Usually, a laminate manufacturer transports finished products from a production facility to a wholesalerÂ’s warehouse. The wholesaler in turn distributes them to retailers and distributors who supply the laminate to customers. In certain cases, this supply chain is altered with the wholesaler directly distributing to the end customer. This happens when a customer wants to buy in large quantities and is looking for a price advantage. Most people look for wholesale laminate flooring when they renovate their homes, as they need large quantities of laminate to redo the entire flooring. Purchase of laminate flooring at wholesale prices can help them save a lot of money.

A person who is looking to buy wholesale laminate flooring can find information about it in the classified columns of local newspapers. Many dealers place advertisements in these columns offering wholesale prices for laminate flooring. The Internet is also a good source of information for wholesale laminate floorings.

Some dealers offer wholesale prices, as they want to dispose off their old stock and make room for new models and designs. Distributors also offer whole- sale prices at trade shows if a customer places an order on the spot. This is because an order booked during the show enables them to directly unload the product at the customerÂ’s place. This saves them the cost of stocking the merchandise and this is passed on to the customer.

Some companies sell their flooring supplies in wholesale quantities only. They believe that the presence of an intermediary in the supply chain results in the profits being eroded away. They distribute their products through trade shows or by dealing with a retailer.

For a person looking at renovating his home, it is essential to contact many different sources of wholesale laminate flooring and buy only after comparing the prices.

Laminate Flooring - How to Care for Laminate Flooring

It's hard to damage and easy to care for laminate floors. Here are some tips on how to properly maintain them:

1. Carefully read the warranty and care instructions provided for your flooring. Follow them as much as you can and refer to them if a problem develops.

2. Ask for post-installation care instructions. You may not be able to mop the floor for 48 hours or you may be given other care instructions, depending on the flooring brand.

3. Don't wet-mop laminate floors, because puddles could seep behind basebords and under your floor, damaging them.Only vacuum and then damp-mop them.

4. Don't ever apply wax or acrylic floor finishes.

5. Use only the stain-removal products recommended by the flooring manufacturer. Typical suggestions in product literature are: acetone, for cigarette burns and nail-polish spills, and mineral spirits for grease and tar.

6. Buy doormats for doorways that lead to the garage or outdoors. These doormats will trap grit that can gradually cause light scratching on the laminate floor's surface.

7. Put easy-glide protective buttons on the feet of the furniture.

8. Use dollies when moving a large piece of furniture or a heavy appliance across a laminate floor or else you could leave a scratch by getting tiny peebles caught under a furniture foot or a wheel.

Take common-sense precautions to protect your floor when working with sharp or heavy objects. For example, put down a thick tarp or a carpet scrap to protect the laminate floor when installing a ceiling fan and using a drill; you can damage the floor by accidentally dropping it.

Laminate Flooring - Laminate Flooring is Easy to Install

Here is today’s feature article - Happy reading!. "Laminate Flooring is Easy to Install" has been reviewed by our editorial staff to ensure that it is appropriate for this blog. We hope you enjoy it.

Please contact us if you feel that there is anything within todays article that is inaccurate or misleading. Please use this reference: "Laminate Flooring is Easy to Install".

Most people who buy laminate flooring do so because they want hard flooring, but can’t afford wood. But how does laminate flooring compare to wood? Is it a good alternative, or a case of ‘you get what you pay for’?

Well, that depends on whatÂ’s important to you. The biggest advantage of laminate flooring, apart from its attractive price point, is that it is so easy to install: you can do it yourself, quite easily, which is far from the case with wood flooring. Laminate systems tend to be designed like a jigsaw puzzle, to quickly and easily snap together.

Laminate flooring is also often sturdier than wood – it is very hard wearing, to the point where a cheap shop like Ikea can give a much longer guarantee on their laminates than most wood floor shops can. It won’t fade or dent easily.

While itÂ’s no easier to clean that wood, itÂ’s worth mentioning that itÂ’s an awful lot easier to clean laminate that it is to clean carpet, if you were also considering putting that on your floor. Between the quality of wood and the cheapness of laminate, itÂ’s hardly even worth considering carpet as an option these days.

However, there are also quite a few disadvantages to laminate flooring. The first is the look and sound of it: it looks fake, and it sounds hollow. While the sound can be fixed with an underlay, the look will never be as unique as wood, as wood is naturally formed on a tree and every floor is different. Laminate flooring is basically like sticking a bunch of repeating posters to your floor with a picture of some wood on them – hardly the same.

Also, laminate floors will often curl up and get spoiled if you drop water or other liquids on them. This generally makes them unsuitable for bathroom and kitchen use, unless they have been specially treated for it.

Laminate Flooring - Cork Flooring Is The Best Option Around For Durability And Aesthetic Value

Here is today’s feature article - Happy reading!. "Cork Flooring Is The Best Option Around For Durability And Aesthetic Value" has been reviewed by our editorial staff to ensure that it is appropriate for this blog. We hope you find its contents enjoyable.

It is inevitable, almost everyone no matter how long they have lived in their house, wants to replace their flooring at some point. Do you have carpet that is covered in pet stains, juice, coffee or wine stains? Carpet gets matted down and shows wear patterns quickly. Alternatively, maybe you have hardwood floors that are full of scratches and dents. Linoleum that is peeling up at the edges and seams and has rips and tears in it.

No matter what type of flooring you currently have. If you are not happy with what you are walking on, it can reduce the value and appearance of your home dramatically. If you are considering a new floor, you owe it to yourself to look into cork flooring as an option.

What Is Cork Flooring?

Cork has been used in a variety of capacities for thousands of years including flooring. Because of all of the wonderful properties found naturally in cork, it is a perfect choice for flooring, sound proofing, and of course in wine bottles.

Cork is taken from the bark of the cork oak tree. The cork can be harvested after the tree is 25 years of age. And after that, the tree can be harvested every nine years for the rest of the lifetime. In addition, since each cork oak tree can live to be over two hundred years old, cork is a renewable resource, making it an excellent option for environmentally conscious consumers.

How Durable Is Cork?

When you think of cork, you may think immediately of wine corks or small cork plugs that are used to plug bottles of all shapes and sizes. You may have had the experience of a cork used in a wine bottle breaking off into your wine. If this has happened to you, you might be wondering if cork really is strong enough for a flooring option.

The answer is a resounding yes! In fact, cork is probably one of the strongest flooring options available on the market today! Cork is much less affected by impact and friction than hardwood, laminate or tile flooring. Therefore, cork can stand up to much more use and abuse than any other flooring type.

In fact, cork has an amazing resistant and is extremely resilient to pressure. If you stand on a cork floor with high heels, the floor will make an impression or a dent. However, when you remove the pressure, the floor will spring back to its original shape almost immediately, and leave no lasting mark or impression! This is handy if you plan to place any heavy furniture on your floor. With other types of flooring such as carpet, heavy furniture will leave a permanent mark when it is moved. However with cork, when you remove the furniture, the floor with look as good as new.

When you drop heavy items on tile floors, they are prone to cracking and breaking. However, with a cork floor, the item will not leave a mark. This is an excellent property if you have small children or are just clumsy!

What About Water?

Cork contains a natural substance called suberin. Suberin is a waxy type of substance that makes the cork impervious to liquids and the cork will not rot if it is exposed to water or liquid like a hardwood or laminate. This makes cork flooring a perfect choice for kitchens or bathroom areas. Cork is the best seal around which is evidenced by the use of cork to stop up wine bottles for centuries.

If you spill anything on a cork floor, you do not have to worry about staining or any other damage, you simply wipe it up, and the mess is gone. Unlike carpet or hardwood where you would have to worry about a permanent stain or discoloration of the floor.

What Other Properties Does Cork Have?

Cork is the perfect choice if you suffer from allergies or if you have an illness that requires your living environment to be very clean. Because cork is a natural barrier to insects, common problem insects such as termites and ants cannot get into the flooring and infest the house.

In addition, cork is naturally germ resistant which means that no allergens can hid in the floor such as with carpet. The floor will not absorb dust or allow any molds or funguses to grow. It is easy to clean and is not produced with any harsh chemicals, which makes it the perfect choice for people suffering with allergies or any major illness.

Can I Install It Myself?

If you are a do it yourselfer and you like home projects, than cork is definitely something that you can install over a weekend. Many manufactures are now producing cork-flooring tiles with a glue-less technology. You simply snap the tiles in place like a floating floor. This makes the installation easy and it does not require any special tools.

The Final Decision

Cork is the perfect choice for flooring if you need something that will stand up to use and abuse, be long lasting, is resistant to water and stains and be safe for the environment. An excellent value for your money, cork will last forever and is only half the price of many other popular flooring options.

Laminate Flooring - Laminate Flooring Can Help Guard Against Allergens

For the situations where laminate flooring isnÂ’t so ideal, thereÂ’s no shortage of alternatives. The most popular, obviously, is wood, but there are others too that are equally worth considering.

Hardwood floors are natural, unique, and don’t feel ‘manufactured’ – they give a room a certain look that is impossible to fake. Many consider it to be a thousand times more beautiful than laminate flooring. However, it does tend to wear out more quickly, and it isn’t cheap if you want the quality stuff.

Another alternative is cork flooring. Cork is a very interesting substance – it is a kind of wood, and yet it’s soft and springy. It doesn’t make the annoying sounds than many floors do, sounding more like carpet than laminate. It is better for the environment than normal wood, as the tree is only stripped of its bark every few years to make cork, not actually chopped down. It is also fire-resistant and stops heat from escaping through your floor, reducing your heating bills.

A slightly more exotic floor covering to consider is bamboo. It is even better for the environment than cork, as it is a crop, a grass that can easily be harvested and re-grown – every bamboo (or other non-wood) floor actually helps save rainforests from being destroyed! If you live somewhere hot, bamboo floors are ideal, as they won’t buckle the way other floors do. Bamboo is easy to dye in different colours, so it will fit into your house easily in the same way as laminate does.

Of course, you could always take a trip back in time and go back to carpet. For all the bad press it’s been getting recently, carpet can give a home a warm feeling, with its soft, furry surface – great if you have a traditionally decorated home. However, you should steer well clear if you have allergies, as there are few things in the world worse for them than carpets.

Most homeowners choose flooring for their homes based on two essential criteria, namely, the quality and price of the flooring material. Laminate flooring is considered a good flooring option by many homeowners as it helps their homes appear stylish and yet is not too expensive. A buyer would typically look for a discount on the laminate flooring to ensure that he is able to further lower the overall cost of construction or renovation of the home.

There are various reasons why manufacturers and dealers of laminate flooring offer discounts on their products. Understanding these reasons is important for a buyer to be able to procure the flooring material at the best available pricing. Some manufacturers offer a discount on certain specific designs and models that have been phased out from their product range. Some part of the last batch of production of the design or model may have remained unsold. As it occupies space in the warehouses that could be utilized for stocking other materials, dealers would want to dispose it off. Such laminate flooring designs are sold at discounted prices and a buyer would be able to bargain and settle for a lower price than the original price.

Buyers of laminate flooring may also be in a position to negotiate a better price when they are buying in large quantities. If a homeowner were renovating all the rooms in the house, the requirement of laminate flooring would be fairly large. In such cases, it is possible to convince most dealers of offering a part of their profit margins as an incentive to the buyer.

Some dealers of laminate flooring offer discounts on certain brands when the company manufacturing those brands organizes a special promotional drive. Typically this happens when a new product is launched or an existing product is being repositioned in the market.

Buyers can acquire information about discounted laminate flooring by checking out the Web sites of manufacturers and dealers in their area. Local newspapers also carry advertisements by dealers when a special discount is being offered. It is important for a buyer to ensure that a discount in price does not translate into a discount in the quality of the laminate flooring he is purchasing.

Laminate Flooring - Selecting a Laminate Floor to Suite Your Needs

Here’s today’s article - enjoy!. "Selecting a Laminate Floor to Suite Your Needs" has been reviewed by our editorial staff to ensure that it is appropriate for this blog. We hope you find this information useful.

The legal side: - Sorry but we cannot guarantee the content as 100% accurate. Other articles with the topic "laminate flooring" can be found on the articles category page.

Please contact us if you feel that there is anything within todays article that is inaccurate or misleading. Please use the following reference: "Selecting a Laminate Floor to Suite Your Needs".

The traditional look of hardwood flooring is timeless; its beauty has brought a sense of comfort and elegance to homes around the world for many generations. Hardwood floors are however pricey, not very durable and require a fair amount of routine maintenance and care. Even the most recent technological advancements in surface treatment have not been able to solve such problems as scratching, fading, denting and staining. This has lead to the invention of laminate flooring. With its machine made construction and hardwood photographic laminated surface, laminate flooring is the perfect solution for the look and appeal of real hardwood floors that are more durable and require less maintenance.

Since the introduction of laminate flooring into the US in 1982, the sector has experienced growth of up to 20% per annum at the expense of other flooring types, making laminate flooring the fastest growing flooring type in the country. Its appeal lies not only in its aesthetic value of its representation of real hardwood, but also due to its incredible durability and ease of maintenance. Laminate flooring is built to withstand the rigors of todayÂ’s active lifestyles.

Unlike hardwood, laminate flooring will not stain, fade, dent and is far more scratch and water resistant. Laminate warranties range from 10 years to lifetime and cover such factors as mentioned above. Entry level laminates are designed for light traffic areas and come with warranties ranging from 10 to 15 years. Most people set their expectations too high and expect that an entry level laminate will perform under heavy traffic conditions and still look good for the duration of the warranty. This is however not the case, as an entry level laminate subject to high traffic will start to show wear and tear within three to five years.

Buying the laminate flooring that suits your needs will save you money in the long run. This is not to say that every home requires a high end laminate with an extensive warranty. Consider the amount of traffic as well as the amount of time you intend staying in your current home. There is no point in purchasing an expensive floor with an extended warranty if you plan on moving in the near future. Remember, flooring is usually the first thing replaced by people when moving to a new home.

Laminate floors come with cores ranging from 6mm up to 12mm. A thicker core is more stable, less vulnerable to buckling and will sound more like real hardwood when walked on. Good quality laminate cores are treated with water repellent chemicals, and resist swelling due to excessive moisture. This is very important especially when considering placing laminate floors in bathrooms and kitchens. For these applications also consider a laminate that has Paraffin wax impregnated joints. The Paraffin wax acts as a water repellent and will prevent topical water spills from penetrating down to the laminate core. Also remember to scrutinize the warranty, as certain laminate floors are not covered for use in bathrooms and kitchens.

The introduction of glueless locking mechanisms has opened the door to the DIY market. The absence of glue allows for a quicker installation and easier repair, and unlike other flooring materials that require specialist knowledge and equipment, these floors can be installed by people with no prior experience and no specialized tools. The ability to install the floor without having to hire an installer will save you a considerable amount of money.
